Coming soon to a Gavin near you

Master Peace Theater (working title) – I’m bursting with excitement about this project. I have been having persistent spontaneous non-sequitur moments of enthusiastic creativity since meeting this morning with Jesse L to talk about this idea. The feeling is familiar – it’s very like what I felt when I recognized my thesis topic, seven years ago.

If this isn’t my life’s work, then it’s darn close, at least for a few years. More details to follow, depending on the group’s sense of appropriate timing – though I’ll be glad to tell you about it in person. Suffice it to say that, as a global community and in our own neighborhoods, we can find creative solutions to conflict, and this project will help everyone see how. Not only that, but we’ll be getting others to practice solving problems, and helping people to understand that any conflict situation is an opportunity to practice these skills.

Oooh, I get chills just thinking about this! It’s sooo neat. I can’t wait to tell you about it in person. Hooray for subtle cultural transformation through daily life! Hooray for teamwork! Hooray for the grand over-arching vision!

As part of your research you might want to participate in the Alternatives to Violence Program . I think it has a lot to offer you, even though its medium is not theater. They do use some improve as a teaching tool. There are AVP programs designed for community, for schools, and for prison groups.

    Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Mom! I’m actually going to an AVP workshop over the course of the weekend leading up to the initial organizing meeting for this group.
