Yet another breakfast of oatmeal

Oatmeal breakfast with Alexis.

Yesterday’s meals…

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Breakfast, solo, was duck oatmeal, this time prepared with the glaze reduced from an already highly concentrated duck broth.

I simply postponed, and then skipped, lunch - first thinking I would eat soon (and that I was getting a lot done), then that I was eating soon anyway (an that I ought to wait). I ran a bunch of errands, including a trip to New Seasons, where I had a bite of a bagel from the “solutions” counter (which might, as it turns out, have contained eggs). Once home, I threw together a batch of my latest favorite flavor of Happiness(tm) Chocolate (which I think I’ll call “Brut”), and set to cleaning the place. My house was much more ready for company by the time I ran out the door.

Dinner, with my friend Maren, was an “Incan Bowl” at Blossoming Lotus: quinoa, beans, steamed kale, and sweet ginger sauce with tempeh and avocado. We bumped into Andy and Donna, too.

Dessert with Maren and Alexis was a ramekin each of vanilla coconut bliss and Brut Happiness(tm) chocolate.

Duck oatmeal with dried fruits

Oatmeal cooked in duck fat with dried fruit (cherries and apples), salt, and pepper. Yum!

Eaten while planning my day.

Oatmeal and conversation

A bowl of oatmeal with dried fruit, and conversation with my friend, Ben, for breakfast.

More oatmeal

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Oatmeal, chopped-up dried apple slices, dried bing cherries, and a little salt. Ten minutes to prep, including washing the cookpot. Eaten on my own, after planning my day and before going to Meeting for Worship.

Just oatmeal

As opposed to unjust oatmeal? No. This was simply oatmeal without anything else added. Except maybe salt. And then I put in an apple, because it was too hot (& a little bland).

Prep time 10 minutes, including washing up after. 10 minutes to eat.

Savory oatmeal

A porridge of oats, lightly toasted with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and simmered with dried bing cherries, dried apple slices, and toasted hazelnuts.

Sweet, spicy, and delicious.
