Yesterday’s meals…

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Breakfast, solo, was duck oatmeal, this time prepared with the glaze reduced from an already highly concentrated duck broth.

I simply postponed, and then skipped, lunch - first thinking I would eat soon (and that I was getting a lot done), then that I was eating soon anyway (an that I ought to wait). I ran a bunch of errands, including a trip to New Seasons, where I had a bite of a bagel from the “solutions” counter (which might, as it turns out, have contained eggs). Once home, I threw together a batch of my latest favorite flavor of Happiness(tm) Chocolate (which I think I’ll call “Brut”), and set to cleaning the place. My house was much more ready for company by the time I ran out the door.

Dinner, with my friend Maren, was an “Incan Bowl” at Blossoming Lotus: quinoa, beans, steamed kale, and sweet ginger sauce with tempeh and avocado. We bumped into Andy and Donna, too.

Dessert with Maren and Alexis was a ramekin each of vanilla coconut bliss and Brut Happiness(tm) chocolate.

Duck oatmeal with dried fruits

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Oatmeal cooked in duck fat with dried fruit (cherries and apples), salt, and pepper. Yum!

Eaten while planning my day.

Two Tacos

Monday, February 9th, 2009

Lunch was a pair of “nutri tacos” from a stand around the corner from the Village Free School - one with shredded pork, one with shredded beef. It left me wondering how to inform a restaurant that they may be out of compliance with city code (in this case by using styrofoam for their to-go containers) without coming off as arrogant or threatening, but still conveying the importance of the issue to me.

I think I have something like an answer, in the practice I think of as “being the Truth” - spending some time reflecting on all the different things I want to convey, letting the feeling of those communications settle into my body before acting or speaking on the matter, and then acting as I’m led while trusting that my whole being will move in concert with my intent. Thanks to my teachers and mentors for training me in the essential pieces of that process, and helping me put it all together.

Two more slices, one day later

Friday, February 6th, 2009

A slice of pepperoni, and one with Italian sausage and veggies, with a half-pint of chocolate stout.

Leftovers!

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

One of the most wonderful things about sharing a big meal with friends: leftovers. After a quick review of duck confit, concluding that it is beyond my reach today, I reheated duck and veggies from last night, snacked on a partly-eaten crab cake, and dished up a portion of sweet potatoes. And a side of chutney. Yum!

More oatmeal

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

Oatmeal, chopped-up dried apple slices, dried bing cherries, and a little salt. Ten minutes to prep, including washing the cookpot. Eaten on my own, after planning my day and before going to Meeting for Worship.

Movie food

Hot dog and root beer while watching what I expect to be a sappy and fluffy romantic comedy - “New In Town” - by myself. :)

“The Patriot”

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

It’s a “Reggie” plus a sausage patty, and Seth (who throws these things together with quickness and a smile) calls it a “Patriot.” All together, that’s a biscuit with fried chicken, bacon, cheese, sausage gravy, and a sausage patty. I’ve got sweet tea to wash it down.

Had to wait a darn long time, due to technical difficulties in the kitchen, but it’s totally worth it; this is an amazing breakfast sandwich.

Late lunch

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Butterflied chicken breast, marinated in olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic, and worchestershire sauce, sauteed and served over a bed of baby spinach with shaved Parmesan cheese, croutons, and a dressing of Vegenaise, worchestershire sauce, minced anchovies, and the lemon-juice-deglazed drippings from the frying pan in which the chicken was sauteed.

30 minutes to prep. Enjoyed in my own company with a glass of water. Maybe use less anchovy next time.

Just oatmeal

Friday, January 30th, 2009

As opposed to unjust oatmeal? No. This was simply oatmeal without anything else added. Except maybe salt. And then I put in an apple, because it was too hot (& a little bland).

Prep time 10 minutes, including washing up after. 10 minutes to eat.
