Over the years, I’ve written a few personal ads, some of which have never before been published (online – I’ve never run an ad in the paper). I think they give some sense not only of what I have hoped for in my partner, but of who I am (or was).
Notably, the qualities I look for in my partner are also qualities I look for in friends. If you see yourself in my descriptions, get in touch – we may have some catching up to do, and a whole life full of memories ahead of us.
More recently, I’ve been focusing on the feeling of being in relationship. That practice has guided me in generating a list of qualities I’m looking for in that experience.
And of course, it has been useful for me to recognize some red flags and deal-breakers.
